Talking Cards

Our story

We make one thing, and we try to make it properly: a card that holds a voice.

Children keep strange things. Not the expensive presents — a ticket stub, a drawing, a note somebody left on the counter. The things that get kept are the things that prove a moment happened.

The note the Tooth Fairy leaves is usually not one of those things. It gets read once, admired over breakfast, and lost by the weekend. We wanted to build the version that does not get lost: your child's own photo with the Tooth Fairy in it, and her voice saying their name out loud, from inside the card.

Why a voice

A photograph shows a child what they looked like. A voice tells them how they were spoken to. The moment a six-year-old hears their own name come out of a card the Tooth Fairy left is not a moment a handwritten note can reach, and it is the whole reason this product exists.

So the speaker is not a novelty bolted on at the end. It is rechargeable over USB-C and the message can be re-recorded, which means the same card can carry a new message every year. The card is designed to still be in a drawer in fifteen years, and to still work.

What we make

Talking Cards makes two: Talking Santa for Christmas, and Talking Tooth Fairy for the tooth under the pillow. Same idea, same hardware, two different nights that a kid remembers for the rest of their life.

How we work

We are small. Your photo is composited by us, your recording is turned into the Tooth Fairy's voice by us, and the card is printed and mailed by us. When you email, a person reads it — there is no ticket queue to be third in line for.

Being small is also why we are careful with what you send us. We only ask for a photo, a recording and the details needed to ship a card, and our privacy policy is the rare one written in plain language about what actually happens to them.
